Dr. Robert Ndegwa – Director MoE and a member of SEPU Board of Directors reads the official opening of the workshop speech on behalf of the Director General of Education Mr. Elyas Abdi Jillaow during day 1 of the SEPU workshop for development of Junior school science kit earlier today September 30, 2024 in Naivasha, Nakuru county.
The merged kit for grades 7 – 9 will be developed by SEPU and will confirm strictly to the curriculum designs developed by KICD.
The conjoining of this kit under development will reduce the cost of manufacture, supply, distribution and duplication of the items across grade levels 7 – 9 as well as successfully implement integrated science learning at Junior school level.
In attendance were Director Dorcas Kimwetich in charge of Technical and Research committee of SEPU board, Prof. Ong’ondo of KICD and other education stakeholder.
DEVELOPMENT OF JUNIOR SCHOOL SCIENCE KIT
Prof. Charles Ochieng’ Ong’ondo, Director/CEO- Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development and a member of SEPU Board of Directors, gives a Keynote address “CBC implementation, the journey and dynamics of Junior School during day 1 of SEPU workshop for development of Junior school science kit inside Menengai Hall at Masada Hotel in Naivasha, Nakuru County earlier today September 30, 2024.
The kits in development are targeted to address the three domains of learning which include Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective.
This workshop has pulled together education and technical experts from KICD, MoE Quality Assurance office, JSS facilitators/teachers, KNUT, CEMASTEA, KEPSHA,KESSHA and SEPU.
The five day workshop organised by SEPU also aims to develop a science kit that is aligned to the revised curriculum, one that helps the learner to successfully attain the learning outcomes of science education in primary schools as stipulated in the science curriculum designs.
